I rediscovered my 2016 International Studies Honours thesis a couple of years ago. It was inspired by my experiences in Cambodia; visiting Angkor Wat, the Dangrek Mountain range, historic Khmer rouge sites, the bomb craters near the Vietnamese border, Bokor, Sianoukville, Koh Rong and many other beautiful places and people along the way. BBC documentaries "The Arrow of Time - Wonders of the Universe" and "Soul of a Nation" also influenced my mindset when writing this. Cambodia is a remarkable, hospitable and beautiful country which is emerging from unimaginable hardship caused by great power competition, capitalism, communism and nationalism which resulted in the Cambodian Genocide.
I didn't put any gratitude in the document so I want to thank you Monash University (please divest from fossil fuels and weapons and look after Wholefoods) and the Documentation Centre of Cambodia for facilitating my internship there, and the people of Thailand and Cambodia for sharing their culture and hospitality, and my colleagues for being patient with me.
This document contains criticism of the political systems and processes of Thailand and Cambodia, and has several errors. I've visited both countries, though Cambodia for considerably longer and appreciate both cultures deeply, especially their people, religious traditions, architecture and cuisine, and honor the boundless kindness that the people of Cambodia showed me, as well as the legacy of the late King of Thailand - Bhumibol Adulyadej - the Soul of a Nation, in my view and to my knowledge one of the most exemplary figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.
DC-CAM is responsible for documenting the Cambodian Genocide and healing Cambodian society which was fractured beyond imagination. I hope people who are concerned about armed conflicts around the world, read DC-CAM's publications (English is at the bottom of the page).
Stop war everywhere forever.
